Biography

London based urban-pop artist Danijela ͞Danéx͟ Jankovic was born on October 9, 1992, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Serbian and Cape Verdean singer/songwriter found her way in her brothers cassette drawer—at age 6 she was introduced to the likes of 2 Pac, Boys II Men, Whitney Houston. At the age of 16, Danéx confessed her lifelong ambition to becoming a singer, unusually, a request for a two-hour drive across Serbia. She had entered, in secret, Serbia͛s Got Talent and had landed herself an audition on TV. When she enlisted her Dad as chauffeur. From that audition on, Danéx fell in love with the stage. On moving back to Rotterdam she attended The Popacademie music pop academy where she began brushing up her skills as a live performer; being an independent artist at the core, Danéx took to self-producing her own videos, booking her own shows and scheduling her own releases. Her hard work and DIY attitude paid off and in 2014, the first single ͚If Anyone Can Have It͛ was released. With a one-way bus ticket, a bag and a gut feeling, Danéx headed to London, hoping the move would open up further opportunities. Danéx͛s first 5 months in London saw her sleeping in a studio floor to keep herself a float whilst recording music. With the struggle and realities of being in a new environment and striving to be the best artist possible, Danéx͛s lowest point came when she felt like giving up. However, surrounded byfellow creative, she was encouraged to keep pursing her dreams, at which point she released her most streamed record; ͚Put Your Hands On My Body͛ produced by Ebenezer ͞LongLivThePlug͟ Fabiyi instilling confidence in the talented Danex and an unexpected following which became obvious when she sold out her first headline show in London. Heavily influenced by a wide range of international women with strong voices (Beyoncé Jhené Aiko and Kehlani), Danéx aspires to be apart of this iconic chain of women— her experiences of anxiety, pressures and demands of being an artist, the sharing of her various coping mechanisms and how she learnt to manage it, is hugely embedded in what she͛d like to impart to her ever growing audience. What she says is ͞the most free I have ever felt; is when I͛m on stage͟— a natural introvert who͛s therapeutic outlets are her main form of self-expression, Danéx wants to inspire her supporters into the belief that achieving your dreams is possible, despite the odds Danéx continues to develop her craft; her song-writing skills can be absorbed on her Oakwood EP which details accounts of her learned lessons and rollercoaster of a journey thus far. Her ambition, warm tone and soulful imprint embodies an artist that is not afraid to be bold in her creative space.
