Biography

Lilac Melt are an indie dream-pop/shoegaze band from Scotland/Greece based in Edinburgh. Formed in early 2018, they joined forces to experiment with alternative music and they quickly established a sound of expansive atmospheres and luminous melodies with a 90's quality. Katherine Aly, Dave Brown and Will Oke began working on their first EP at B&B Studios with Phil Hague writing drums and percussion for them.

In June 26, they self-released their first single, Oxidise, along with a lyric video and got signed by independent record label, Infinite Hive Music. Soon after that James Cougan joined the band for drums and percussion when playing live and for writing new songs for the Lilac Melt's first full-length album.

Gathering airtime from many radio stations, including BBC Radio Scotland, the band diversified with acoustic arrangements of their songs, always maintaining their multi-layered, reverberated sound. Their self-titled, 5-track EP was officially released on 19 November 2018 via Infinite Hive Music.

Press release by Global Sound Group: Scottish indie outfit, Lilac Melt, are on the brink of releasing their debut EP and the self-titled release is sure to strike a chord with fans of the band and new listeners alike. Forming in Edinburgh earlier this year, Lilac Melt are a Scottish/Greek band, creating dream pop and shoegaze music with expansive atmospheres and stunning melodies, telling stories about subjectivity in singular and collective contexts. Having successfully released their debut single ‘Oxidise’ in June, the band are taking their music even further with an impressive EP. On the EP, Lilac Melt’s signature sound truly thrives. With glistening layers of ambient guitar and atmospheric sounds soaked in reverb, the band creates a beautiful aura around their music. Emotive, melodic vocals, punchy drumbeats and metallic guitar riffs cut through the ambient layers to drive each song.
